Does Yoga help with arthritis?

There are 100’s of different forms of arthritis, with Osteoarthritis being the most common type.

One in 5 Australians will develop some form of arthritis from the ago of 40 with around 4 million Australians currently affected and numbers increasing annually, this has become a major burden on the health care system.  The effects of arthritis can impact physically, emotionally and interfere with your career aspirations.

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability and a cause of pain and suffering to many.  There is no definitive cure for this dis-ease, but there are ways you can help to relieve the symptoms.

Women are 50% more likely to develop arthritis, with osteoarthritis being the most common form there is.  Causing pain and stiffness in the joints and a decreased range of movement.

Medical experts now know that a sedentary lifestyle worsen arthritis, but many people fear exercise due to pain.  However gentle forms of exercise will help to reduce stiffness and pain.

A mindful practice of Yoga has been proven time and again to provide an overall mind-body experience which not only brings more strength and flexibility and less pain, it can calm the mind and reduce the fear of pain.  Yoga practice will help to develop more body awareness, so you only move in ways that are beneficial in your path to living well with arthritis.
